Usain Bolt: Playing at Old Trafford is my dream

Usain Bolt will realise what every Manchester United fan dreams of on Sunday, when he walks out as a captain at Old Trafford.

The Olympic icon and current 100m world-record holder will skipper a World XI team in Soccer Aid for Unicef, against an England team captained by Robbie Williams in the biennial charity match Unicef.

Ahead of Sunday's 20:00 BST kick-off, Bolt spoke exclusively to ManUtd.com about where this moment will rank in his life.

“For me, this is a dream,” the Jamaican said. “It is something that any Manchester United fan would want to experience. It's going to be one of the greatest things I've ever done. I'm really looking forward to it.”

Bolt will need no introduction to Old Trafford. A self-professed Red, the Jamaican has expressed his desire to play for United since he visited the Aon Training Complex in 2011, when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm.

Since the sprinter called time on his track career back in 2017, Bolt has pursued his ambition to play professional football and has had trials at numerous clubs including Borussia Dortmund and, reportedly, Norwegian club Stromsgodset.

With over 70,000 fans and the TV cameras in attendance on Sunday, Bolt hopes to make the most of his opportunity.

“I've been working on my running with the ball and working on my close control. My first touch has improved a lot more now. My shooting still needs a bit of work, but I'll be ready if I get a chance.

”I think a lot of people will tune into the game,“ he added. ”I know that people will be wanting to see if I'm any good and if I'm serious about this. I see it as my audition, so I'm excited.“
