Reds await Carabao Cup opponents next week

Manchester United will enter the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage for the 2023/24 season, as Erik ten Hag's side look set to begin our defence of the trophy.

The Reds beat Newcastle United 2-0 at Wembley Stadium back in February, claiming our first piece of silverware since 2017 and the first of the Dutchman's era.

Now set to compete this season on four fronts, our defence will begin at the third-round stage, with 32 teams set to battle it out.

With United having reached at least the semi-finals in three of the last four seasons, it's a particular record we will be bidding to extend this term.

WHEN IS THE DRAW?

With a date yet to be 100 per cent confirmed for the third-round draw, most expect it to take place in midweek, probably on Wednesday night, following the conclusion of next week's ties on 29 and 30 August.

Sky Sports are once again the rights holders for the coverage this season, so we can expect proceedings to unfold via the platform's official channels.
WHO IS STILL INVOLVED IN THE COMPETITION?

With the tournament, at present, split into both north and south sections, to help limit midweek travel, Chelsea and Tottenham entered the competition at this stage due to their lack of European involvement.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have been drawn to face AFC Wimbledon, while Fulham host Spurs, in two all-London affairs.
