February's internationals: Which Reds play when?

Thursday 22 February 2024 15:10

There is plenty of Manchester United interest in the next round of international fixtures, with 14 Reds selected to represent their nations across the remainder of the month.

12 of those are senior players, while Academy prospects Olivia Francis and Mayzee Davies have been picked in the Wales squad for their upcoming encounters.

Much of our interest falls with England, with five first-team stars potentially in action, including Reds loanee Grace Clinton who is flourishing at Tottenham Hotspur this term.

BRAZIL

Geyse is set to be away the longest of the Reds' internationals, as our no.23 is part of Brazil's squad for the CONCACAF W Gold Cup, which runs until 10 March. Her absence will largely depend on how far the South Americans progress, with their last of three group games in the early hours of 28 February.

Jayde Riviere was due to join up with Canada for the tournament, but was forced to withdraw after picking up a knock in our win over Brighton at the start of the month.

ENGLAND

Five of our players have been called up to the Lionesses squad, with Mary Earps, Maya Le Tissier and Ella Toone earning a spot in Sarina Wiegman’s squad again. Millie Turner was a late addition, replacing Arsenal’s Leah Williamson who was forced to withdraw through injury.

As mentioned above, Clinton has also been selected to feature once more, having flourished in her spell at Spurs this term.

NORWAY

Reds midfielder Lisa Naalsund has been rewarded for her fine form of late by the Norwegian national team, having been picked for their UEFA Nations League double-header against Croatia.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

After making her return to club action in our Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth-round victory over Southampton earlier this month, Aoife Mannion has been chosen for the Republic of Ireland’s next two fixtures, versus Italy and Wales.

SPAIN

United forward Lucia Garcia has been named in the Spain squad for their crucial UEFA Nation’s League semi-final clash with the Netherlands on Friday, with a place at the Paris 2024 Olympics up for grabs for the winners of the tournament.

The result will determine whether the world champions play in the final or the third-place play-off on Wednesday 28 February, when they will face either France or Germany.

WALES

There is plenty of Reds interest as Wales face the Republic of Ireland next week. Young goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel, who has been on loan at Watford since January, is joined by Hayley Ladd and Gemma Evans in the Welsh squad.

United Academy players Davies and Francis have also been included, earning their first senior call-ups.
