FA Cup final details confirmed

Tuesday 23 April 2024 10:00

Manchester United are facing neighbours City in the Emirates FA Cup final for the second year in succession.

The clubs had never met in a major domestic final before last season's 2-1 defeat to the Blues at Wembley, with Bruno Fernandes scoring our goal from the penalty spot.

Next month's showpiece occasion at the national stadium will take place on Saturday 25 May and kick off at the traditional time of 15:00 BST.

The time was agreed with the clubs, local authorities, members of the Safety Advisory Group and broadcasters, and it will be our last game of the season.

Live television coverage in the UK will be provided on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, ITV1, ITVX, UTV and STV.

The FA has reported that the winners will receive £2 million, with the runners-up getting £1 million from the competition's prize fund.

Victory for United would grant automatic access into next term's Europa League, providing the Reds do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League via our final league position. It now seems likely that only a top-four finish would gain entry to that competition.

Our penalty shootout triumph over Coventry City means the Reds have reached the final more times than any other club (22). This will be City's 13th appearance, after Bernardo Silva's goal saw off Chelsea last weekend.

It is the first time in 139 years that the same opponents have met in successive finals - Blackburn Rovers defeated Scottish side Queen's Park twice on the trot, in 1884 and 1885.
