Manchester United defender Rhys Bennett will spend the rest of the season at nearby Stockport County.

The young centre-back has completed the first loan move of his career, and will look to gain a first taste of senior football when representing a team riding high as League Two leaders.

Dave Challinor's side currently sit two points clear of Wrexham at the summit and are pushing for promotion.

Another Red is heading out of the club for the rest of the season.

Bennett captained the Under-18s team that lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2022, scoring the opening goal of the final against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old has been representing the Reds in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy this term.

Although still to make his first-team bow, he was on the bench for the Premier League game at West Ham United before Christmas and the recent Emirates FA Cup third-round tie against Wigan Athletic.

The move is the seventh loan transfer for the Reds of the January transfer window, with Mateo Mejia leaving permanently, to join Sevilla.

Stockport's next match is on Saturday, when they travel to sixth-placed Notts County.

Best of luck to Rhys and we'll be keeping tabs on his progress!
