A look at United's Christmas fixtures for 2020

Christmas is one of the busiest periods of the football season, with the traditional Boxing Day game one of the first that supporters look out for.

After the release of the provisional 2020/21 Premier League fixtures, the Reds now know our opponents on 26 December – as well as what the remainder of the festive schedule looks like.

We’ll travel to the East Midlands on the day after Christmas, to take on Leicester City, in a repeat of the final game of the 2019/20 campaign, which saw us secure Champions League football at the expense of Brendan Rodgers’s side, with a dramatic 2-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.

That follows a potentially hectic seven-day stretch, with a home game against cross-Pennine rivals Leeds United – our first in the top flight against the Yorkshiremen since February 2004 – scheduled for Saturday 19 December.

If United successfully negotiate the first two rounds in September, we could then have a Carabao Cup quarter-final on either Tuesday 22 or Wednesday 23 December.

Squad rotation could be key in this period, with a further tough-looking test to end 2020, against a side we’ve become very familiar with over the past two years.

Nuno Espirito Santo will bring his Wolves team to Old Trafford on Saturday 28 December, with the Black Country outfit keen to improve on successive league draws in M16 since their promotion from the Championship in 2018.

The Reds will be thankful for the four days’ rest either side of the new year, before another match at Old Trafford to welcome in 2021.

Dean Smith’s Aston Villa will be the opposition for that one, on Saturday 2 January.
