Ten Hag's update on Wan-Bissaka and Williams

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an update on the availability and fitness of full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams.

A mixture of illness and injury has limited Wan-Bissaka’s contribution so far this season to a brief cameo off the bench in our win over Liverpool back in August, while Williams still awaits his first outing of the term due to a longer-term problem.

With Diogo Dalot – who has started every United game this season at right-back - suspended for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Fulham, Ten Hag was asked for an update on the pair who can both play in the position.

While the weekend’s fixture in the capital is likely to come too soon for either to feature from the off, Erik did give an insight into their respective statuses, starting with Williams.
Brandon was recently pictured back on the grass and working hard on his recovery.
"[Brandon had] a bad injury, and really struggled but he is in the right direction,” the boss answered, when asked how the Academy graduate is getting on with his recovery.

“He is in a good way, he is back on the pitch and he will return to team training next week.

“He will go with us to the training camp in Cadiz, he will be available for the team so [I’m] happy for him.”
Erik then continued with the latest on Wan-Bissaka, who he hopes can provide another option for United over the coming months, once fully fit again.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka, he struggled as well, but in a different side,” said the manager.

“Some injuries, some illnesses, so he was also often not available, but he doesn't have a real big problem. It's about him [getting] really fit and to make competition with Diogo for the second half of the season.”

The pair are set to continue building their fitness during the upcoming World Cup break, which will begin after United travel to Fulham for one more domestic game this weekend.

Although he will still be without Wan-Bissaka and Williams when picking his XI, Ten Hag could look to the likes of Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia to operate at right-back at Craven Cottage, with both featuring there at points in this season.
