Wan-Bissaka continues to look the part

Aaron Wan-Bissaka provided further evidence of his consistently good form with an excellent showing in the 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

The right-back was quietly effective throughout the game, as he has largely been overall since forcing his way back into the reckoning under Erik ten Hag.

With real competition for the jersey, primarily from Diogo Dalot, the defender has stepped up to the plate by often virtually locking down our right-hand side, with assistance from the industrious Antony.

Another clean sheet was secured against Wolves and Wan-Bissaka played his part in this, with some trademark tackling and moments that drew appreciation from the Old Trafford crowd.

An innovative piece of skill to keep possession in the 87th minute also illustrated his growing confidence when raiding deep into opposition territory, and he is looking more and more comfortable when getting forward.

This was a 31st appearance of the season for Wan-Bissaka, who will be hoping to impress sufficiently to earn a starting spot in the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City, particularly after not being in the XI for the Carabao Cup final triumph over Newcastle United.

Aaron came on at half-time for Diogo Dalot and snuffed out the considerable threat of Allan Saint-Maximin on the day. He played 101 minutes of our next Wembley appearance, the penalty shootout success after a 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup semi-final, and has experience of the big occasion.

What is more, he has plenty of outstanding performances against City on his CV too.

The unassuming full-back spoke to United Review, the official matchday programme for the Wolves encounter, and talked about his resurgence after only playing four minutes of senior action prior to the winter World Cup, the brief cameo coming when appearing as a late substitute in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

"What's changed?" he replied, when asked about getting into the team since the finals in Qatar. "I'm playing, I'd say. It's a good feeling. I'm happy that I'm being given the chance to play under this manager, and I'm grateful for the chance."

Aaron feels he knows what Ten Hag wants and is keen to deliver more of it during the run-in.

"Just to be proactive at both ends of the pitch," he answered, in terms of the requirements from the boss. "I understand what he demands and just where he wants me on the pitch, you know, and also what he wants from the whole squad."

It never seems like the 25-year-old will be one to shout about his credentials, nor his achievements, but his work has not gone unnoticed by those associated with United.

Fans have welcomed the assurance he helps bring to the defence, in addition to a really proactive approach to winning the ball, and setting the Reds off on the attack.

"I think I'm more quiet on the pitch than I am off it," he added. "When I'm out there, I just focus on my game. I'm not as vocal as others but we all input as a team, and I think that's good enough."

Not only is it good enough but it can be much more than that if the Reds manage to achieve our twin aims of a top-four spot and beating City in the FA Cup final. You sense Wan-Bissaka could have a key role to play in the final four games.
