Manchester United is delighted to announce that Abbie McManus has signed a pre-contract agreement to join the club from the 2019/20 season.

A further announcement will be made in due course.

ALL ABOUT ABBIE

Born in Prestwich on 14 January 1993, Abbie McManus has enjoyed a successful career so far and will move across town to join United after spending more than a decade with Manchester City.

Having played for Bury Girls as a teenager, the defender initially signed for the Blues in 2009 and spent four years with our neighbours before leaving them for a brief spell at Sheffield Ladies in 2013.

When City became a fully professional outfit in 2014, Abbie returned to Manchester and would go on to make over 100 appearances, helping the club to win a Women's Super League title, two Women's FA Cups and two Continental Tyres Cups. McManus also played for Nick Cushing's side in two Champions League semi-finals.

Abbie McManus is in the England squad for this summer's Women's World Cup.

The defender’s domestic achievements have been rewarded with international recognition. Having represented England in the youth ranks, Abbie earned her first senior call-up in February 2018, filling in for the injured Steph Houghton at the SheBelieves Cup tournament in the United States.

After being runners-up last year, Abbie and England got their hands on the SheBelieves Cup in March 2019 and ahead of this summer's FIFA Women's World Cup in France, the 26-year-old has been selected to be part of Phil Neville’s 23-player squad along with our captain, Alex Greenwood.
