Tuesday 10 September 2019 17:45

A group of Manchester United's Academy players recently enjoyed a collaboration day with the British Para-swimming team.

The day began with the Academy players heading to the National Training Centre in Manchester for a morning swimming session.

United's players and the swimming team had the opportunity to learn from each other throughout the experience and started by practising various swimming strokes.

The World Para-swimming Championships are taking place at the London Aquatics Centre this week.

Both sets of athletes presented inspirational stories about navigating the various obstacles they have come across in their individual sports.

The group then visited the Aon Training Complex where they enjoyed an adapted football session arranged by Manchester United Foundation coaches.

The swimming team took the opportunity to watch United's training session in the afternoon before joining the end of the exercise.

Wayne Cahill, Manchester United's Education Officer, said: “The collaboration day was a huge success for everyone involved. Our players were really humbled and found the day to be extremely inspirational.

“The chance to learn about overcoming adversity, succeeding in difficult circumstances and witnessing the level of dedication on show was invaluable to the group. Our boys certainly learned a lot and took a great deal away from the experience; it is certainly something we will look to develop in the future.”

Everyone at the Academy would like to wish the group well in the World Para-Swimming Championships which began today (Tuesday).
