Academy players to depart United this summer

Manchester United have confirmed several homegrown players will depart the club this summer, following the publication of our retained list ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Academy is proud of all our departing young players and their achievements while at the club.

They will all be supported in securing professional contracts at new teams, provided with a bespoke aftercare programme, and will always have a lifelong association with Manchester United.

Two of the names to be released are Ethan Galbraith and Di'Shon Bernard, who had already announced their exits on social media recently.

Both featured in the Europa League tie against Astana in 2019, and have had impressive loan spells away from the club. Midfielder Galbraith spent an enjoyable last term at Salford City, while defender Bernard did well at Portsmouth.

The popular defender is set to depart at the end of his current contract, after captaining the club at every level.

Another youngster to come through the ranks, Charlie Wellens, is also to start a new adventure elsewhere.

Wellens featured for United in the Premier League 2 competition either side of a loan spell with National League outfit Oldham Athletic, between September and January.

Having progressed as a midfielder, the 20-year-old began to impress in a full-back role during the 2020/21 season for our Under-21s (then Under-23s), and has since become a regular in that position.

The youngster is now set to continue his development elsewhere, following the end of his terms as a Red, and we would like to wish him the very best for the future.

The club would also like to extend our good wishes to goalkeeper Eric Hanbury and striker Manni Norkett, who will also leave the club this summer.

Both have represented the Reds in our youth ranks and part of the Under-18s squad during our FA Youth Cup-winning campaign of 2021/22.

The latest news comes as Academy graduate Axel Tuanzebe also prepares for a fresh chapter away from Old Trafford,
