Garnacho: I’ve worked a lot for this moment

Saturday 29 April 2023 11:43

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has explained the pride that he and his family are feeling after the young forward signed a new contract with the club on Friday.

The 18-year-old Academy graduate has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Erik ten Hag’s senior side and has been rewarded for his progress by extending his stay with the Reds until at least 2028.

Having put pen to paper on a new deal, the Argentina youth international joined MUTV’s Mark Sullivan to explain how it feels, during his first interview spoken in English.

Alejandro explained his pride at signing a new United contract, back in April...

“Thank you, [I’m] very proud,” Garnacho began, when congratulated on his new contract.

“It's a great day for me and my family. And I have worked a lot for this moment.

“I want to say thank you to the manager first because he gave me the opportunity. And of course, my family, all Academy coaches, and everyone [who has] helped me so much.

“I wouldn't be here signing this new contract without their support.”

Garnacho has been out of action since sustaining an injury in March’s draw with Southampton, but in further positive news yesterday, he made a return to team training.

Our no.49 has made 29 appearances for Ten Hag's side across 2022/23, tallying nine goals involvements, and is now looking forward to getting back on the pitch to continue the hard work.

“It's been a positive season for me,” he added.

“Scoring my first goals, helping the team on with my first trophy. It's been a special year but it's just the start. We have to keep working, we have more work to do.”

Alejandro also had a message for the United fans for their backing since his emergence from our youth ranks.

The teenager made his debut exactly 12 months prior to signing his new contract on Friday, and has already come a long way in a short space of time.

“I want to say thank you to all the Manchester United fans for this incredible support.

“When I hear them saying my name, it means a lot to me.

“And I want to tell them that I'm giving 100 per cent every day to the team, and to make the fans happy.”

You will be able to see a longer interview with Alejandro, spoken in Spanish, on ManUtd.com and in the United App next week.
