United Women's striker Alessia Russo was on target for the Lionesses last night, as Sarina Wiegman’s side recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over South Korea in the Arnold Clark Cup.

The 24-year-old started the contest at Stadium MK - alongside fellow Reds Ella Toone and Mary Earps - and netted England's third goal of the evening after 50 minutes, latching onto Alex Greenwood's cross to prod home.

Bidding to defend their Arnold Clark Cup title, it was to be a perfect start for England, who are now set to face both Italy and Belgium in the next week.

Georgia Stanway had opened the scoring from the penalty spot with 40 minutes on the clock, after former United forward Lauren James was brought down inside the area.

Manchester City's Chloe Kelly then made it 2-0 shortly after the second half, finishing well from outside the box to double the Lionesses' advantage on the evening.

James then added a fourth just ten minutes before full-time, opening her tally at international level in the process.

United Women's captain Katie Zelem also played the second half of the contest in Milton Keynes, coming on to replace Chelsea's Jess Carter.

Maya Le Tissier was an unused substitute for Wiegman’s side and could feature later this week in the competition, having made one senior appearance for the national team so far.

Elsewhere, Hayley Ladd played the full 90 minutes for Wales on Wednesday, as Gemma Grainger's side beat the Philippines 1-0 in their opening game of the Pinatar Cup. They next face Iceland on Saturday evening (19:30 GMT).

Martha Thomas played the final 30 minutes as Scotland lost 2-0 to Iceland in the same competition. They will next face the Philippines on Saturday, at 14:00 GMT.

Vilde Boe Risa featured throughout the 90 minutes Norway beat Uruguay 1-0, thanks to Karina Saevik's goal in Angers. They are currently competing in the Tourni de France.
