Alex Telles prepares to take a corner against Paris Saint-Germain

How Telles fared on his United debut

Alex Telles made his Manchester United debut in tonight's UEFA Champions League clash with Paris-Saint Germain.

The Brazilian international, who joined the Reds from FC Porto on transfer deadline day, started the game, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer giving him a left wing-back role against the French champions.

Speaking before kick-off, Ole said he's been impressed with his debutant's attitude so far.

"Yeah, both as a player and person, of course," our manager told MUTV at Parc des Princes. "And in the way he's integrated into the group and gelled with the boys. Of course, we knew about his quality. What a stage to make your debut on, eh?"

Telles was in the matchday squad for our Premier League trip to Newcastle on Saturday but remained on the bench throughout the 4-1 win in the North East.

SOLID DEBUT

Being an offensive full-back, it was no surprise that Telles would show attacking qualities in Paris. Around the 20-minute mark, the Brazilian won a strong duel with Alessandro Florenzi. The ball ended at the feet of Anthony Martial who tried to curl a shot into the far top corner, only for his attempt to go over the bar.

We also got to see Telles's precise delivery from set pieces. A corner just before the break was met by Scott McTominay and only a deflection off a PSG defender prevented United from going 2-0 up in the French capital. The Brazilian ended the first half having created two chances, the most by any player on the pitch to that point.

Just before the hour, Telles whipped in another great corner for McTominay, who came close to restoring United's lead following PSG’s equaliser. The 27-year-old also found his wing-back counterpart, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, shortly afterwards but nothing came from a good-looking attack.

The debutant, following a solid first outing for United with several attacking contributions, came off in the 66th minute, as Ole brought on Paul Pogba as our manager looked to change his tactics for the final stages of the match.

Telles's left foot posed a threat to PSG.

TELLES IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The Brazilian has brought a wealth of experience in Europe's elite competition to the Reds' squad.

He played in it nine times for Turkish side Galatasaray between 2013 and 2015, before going on to make another 26 Champions League appearances with FC Porto.

Last season, like United, his Portuguese side competed in the Europa League and Telles featured in eight of those fixtures.

What are Telles's two X-factor qualities?

Statman Dave thinks our new signing from Porto brings a couple of new things to United's style.

As for his involvement in goals, the Brazilian has scored twice and made seven assists so far in the Champions League, a tally he would love to increase in this campaign's competition.

His first strike came in the 2017/18 season, in a group-stage fixture against AS Monaco. He scored his second Champions League goal two seasons later, as Porto ran out 3-2 winners in the round of 16.

In regards to assists, he has a solid record against English teams in the competition, having the penultimate touch against both Liverpool and Leicester. He also provided an assist against our Group H opponents RB Leipzig in 2017.
