Why Bayindir has still to make Reds debut

Erik ten Hag says he is very happy with his Manchester United goalkeepers, after explaining why Altay Bayindir did not play in the Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League Group A clash with Galatasaray, Ten Hag was asked by a Turkish journalist in his press conference about the summer recruit from Fenerbahce.

Some observers expected the 25-year-old to make his debut in last week's cup clash with the Eagles, following Martin Dubravka's involvement in the early rounds of last term's successful run in the competition.

Onana kept his place and gained another clean sheet in the 3-0 victory, which has set up a fourth-round clash against our fellow 2022/23 finalists Newcastle United.

"You will see [if Bayindir gets a chance to play soon], but we chose against Crystal Palace in the League Cup to play Andre because both came new in and both have to adapt to the English standard," explained the boss. "So that's why we preferred Andre to play in that game.

"It's important for him to use every game in this moment, but yeah, we also have to progress Altay, that's clear.

"He makes a very good impression in training, he's really developing, progressing. So we're very happy with that and we are convinced we have the two right goalkeepers in our squad to do the job for us."

Fans will be anticipating a United bow for Bayindir, and a first chance to see him in action, at some point, with plenty of challenges to come at home and abroad.

Of course, the Reds also have the vastly experienced Tom Heaton in our ranks to compete for the gloves, as he has overcome the injury that sidelined him at the start of the campaign.
