Sunday 30 July 2023 07:00

Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernandez has declared himself "ready" for the new campaign, amidst our continued Tour 2023 pre-season preparations in the United States.

The young left back, who enjoyed a fine season on loan with Preston North End in the Championship last term, joined the travelling party across the Atlantic for his first pre-season tour with the Reds this summer.

Fernandez is one of a host of exciting youngsters to have gained valuable minutes on the pitch with Erik ten Hag’s side already this summer, most recently appearing against Wrexham, when he provided an assist for compatriot, Marc Jurado.

The 20-year-old’s hopes remain high as he and his team-mates continue to put in the hard yards in training, ahead of our season opener against Wolves in just over a fortnight’s time.

Sitting down alongside Facundo Pellistri in a recent, exclusive interview with club media, Fernandez discussed his experience on tour so far.

"We start [pre-season] three weeks ago,” said our no.42. "Let’s see what happens. I feel very good with my team-mates, I’m just ready to go."

Fresh from a breakout season in English football with PNE, Fernandez arrives on tour having played 39 times in the second tier last season.

The attack-minded full-back demonstrated his quality during his time at Deepdale, which led to him winning PNE's Young Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 campaign.

"It was a great moment for me and my family," Alvaro continued. "I appreciate that moment from Preston.

"In my case, it was a big experience for me. I went away, 40 minutes away from Manchester, that was very good, a very good league, a lot of games; two every week.

"I felt very good with the team, good team-mates, and the [most] important [thing] was the experience to get there, it was very good."

Now the youngster is out to impress on tour, and coming to recognise the worldwide support that United has.

"Always, wherever you go, any space, you have United support. It’s amazing."

Next up for Alvaro, and the Reds, is a clash against Borussia Dortmund at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Kick-off is set for 02:00 BST on Monday 31 July, and you can watch the match live on MUTV.
