After a cruel injury blow at the end of August denied Amad the chance to head out on loan, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the talented winger will compete for a place in the first team on his return.

The 19-year-old joined United from Atalanta in January of this year and impressed in his first few games for the club, the highlight being a backwards headed goal in the UEFA Europa League against AC Milan.

Having played for the Ivory Coast at the Olympic Games, Amad was set to continue his development out on loan before picking up an injury.

Amad played for his country at the Tokyo Olympics.

In an interview with club reporter Zarah Connolly, Solskjaer gave a timeframe for the Ivorian's return.

“Still injured, still out for about a month,” the boss said. “So maybe after the next international break he will be available for us which is great for us.

“It was bad timing for him to get that injury but he's working really hard and the kid is going to be a good one.”

Solskjaer also gave updates on four more players who have been out of action in recent weeks.

Alex Telles suffered an ankle injury in pre-season training while Marcus Rashford has undergone surgery on a long-term issue and Solskjaer says they’re both “working hard.”

Our full-back describes how his father and two big early setbacks had a huge impact on his journey to the top.

“They're not too far away from joining the team training,” he added.

As for Dean Henderson, the goalkeeper has struggled with the after-effects of COVID-19 but is almost back to his best, and he could feature for United Under-23s in the coming weeks alongside another defensive player.

“Dean has trained well and we're looking to give him games with the Under-23s,” Ole said, “It is the same with Phil [Jones]. Hopefully they can get into the first team very soon.”
