Amad and Mbeumo explain their growing connection

A key element of Bryan Mbeumo's first season at Manchester United has been the relationship he's developed on the pitch with Amad.

It was apt, therefore, that it was that same duo who took part in a player press conference together in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon, during the Reds' four-day intensive training camp in the Republic of Ireland's capital.

Mbeumo joined from Brentford last summer, under former head coach Ruben Amorim, and was often deployed as a right-sided attacking midfielder at the beginning of the campaign, with Amad close by as a wing-back on the same flank, where their bond first flourished.

A formation change under Michael Carrick saw the Ivorian restored to more of a wide-forward role, reducing the scope for both men to play on the same side, but neither believe that has diminished their mutual spark.

"Yeah, at the beginning of the season [we were playing] the same [side], on the right," Amad told the assembled journalists. "I was playing as a wing-back and he was playing as a right [no.] 10.

"And yeah, we had a good relationship, even outside the pitch."

"We had a great relationship at the start of the season, and I think it's still going," Mbeumo concurred. "With him on the right and me sometimes on the left or striker.

"I know his movements and I know as well how he likes to play, with the training and the games as well, we always try to do this partnership every time."

The duo have managed to bring that combined understanding further up the field under Carrick, using their tacit understanding of each other's games to create flexibility in attack when both men are on the pitch.

"We know each other," Amad noted. "We want to have more freedom on the pitch and switch the positions when the team need [it].

"He's happy to do his best for the club and same for me, and we want to continue like this."

After an intense week of training across the Irish Sea, the pair may get the chance to work with each other once again for Leeds United's visit to Old Trafford on Monday 13 April.

The 20:00 BST kick-off ends our 24-day spell without a game, following the March international break and last weekend's Emirates FA Cup quarter-final ties.

Michael Carrick is scheduled to address the press ahead of that match later this week, where he could provide the latest team news – stay tuned across our official channels.
