Amad sends records tumbling with treble
Amad's hat-trick show against Southampton is rightly making headlines across the world.
Our no.16, who recently signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United, was the hero as the Reds headed for a damaging home defeat to the Premier League's bottom side.
Trailing to Manuel Ugarte's first-half own goal, there were only eight minutes left when Amad levelled things up. A clever give-and-go with substitute Christian Eriksen allowed him to stretch to nudge the Reds ahead and he pounced to rob Taylor Harewood Bellis deep into stoppage time to grab the first treble of his senior career.
It was Amad's night and he sent many records tumbling with his efforts.
What was your favourite goal, Amad?
Hat-trick hero Amad was beaming when MUTV's Liam Bradford caught up with him after the game...
It was the first hat-trick by a Red since Cristiano Ronaldo claimed all our goals in a 3-2 victory over Norwich City in April 2022.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford are the only current players who have also earned the match ball in their time here, with three against Leeds United and RB Leipzig respectively.
Amad is the first African player to score a hat-trick for United and the only Red to net one in the Premier League at a younger age is club legend Wayne Rooney, who achieved the feat against Bolton Wanderers in 2006.
Opta have reported that, since the division began in 1992, there have been only three players to score three goals from the 80th minute onwards.
All three are United men - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer slammed in four as a substitute in the famous 8-1 win at Nottingham Forest in 1999, while Rooney matched that haul when terrorising Hull City in early 2010.
