Why Amad signed a new contract

Amad’s love for Manchester United played a big part in his decision to sign a new, long-term contract at the club, the Ivorian winger has revealed.

The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him here until June 2030.

It is just reward after a breakthrough 2024 for our no.16, who established himself in the first team and scored memorable winning goals against our two biggest rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Amad, who will move on to 50 appearances for United with his next outing, says there’s still an immense feeling of pride whenever he wears the red shirt.

“It means a lot for me because I love this club. Every time I pull on the jersey, I'm so proud,” he said, in an interview with MUTV’s Zarah Connolly.

“Every time I'm on the pitch, I want to fight for this club, and I'm so happy to be here for a long time.”

This time last year, Amad was on the fringes of the side, three years after his transfer from Atalanta and following loan spells with Rangers and Sunderland.

So how has he become such an important player so quickly for the Reds?

“First thing, you have to believe. I will always believe in myself,” he answered.

“I work very hard to achieve a lot of things with this club. Today, I'm so happy to extend for five more years.

“I want to be here for a long, long, long time. Not just five more years, but maybe for all my life.”

Amad has been a star performer during a difficult time under new head coach Ruben Amorim, playing at first as a right wing-back and, more recently, as one of the attacking trio in his 3-4-3 formation.

He admits it has taken everyone a bit of time to get their head around the new system but that things are now falling into place as we build for the future.

“Yeah, we learn every day. We learn, you know, it's a new system for everyone. At the beginning it was not easy, but I think now the team is starting to understand the system a little bit more.

“The manager and the staff are, every day, at the training ground to help us, to understand more of the system.

“We are very happy to have them and we want to follow them for the system, because we know at the end we will have success.”
