Onana hopes to be fit for opener
Andre Onana has revealed he is hoping to be fit for Manchester United's Premier League opener against Arsenal.
The Old Trafford clash with the Gunners is creeping ever closer, taking place on Sunday 17 August, with a 16:30 BST kick-off, as Ruben Amorim's side look to begin the campaign in positive fashion.
Onana travelled to the United States with the rest of the squad but worked on his fitness as he bids to return from injury.
The Cameroon international did not feature in the Premier League Summer Series, with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton keeping goal.
Bayindir played against West Ham United and Everton, while Heaton started the 4-1 victory over Bournemouth.
Speaking to NBC Sports in Atlanta, Onana issued an update on his fitness and stressed the importance of getting off to a good start against Mikel Arteta's side.
"l'm good, I feel great," the Cameroon international revealed to the American broadcasters. "It's been a few difficult weeks but yeah, hopefully, I will be back for the start of the season. I'm enjoying the training with my guys and we are looking forward."
In his chat with ex-United keeper Tim Howard, Onana also touched on what he feels is different this time around as the Reds target a much more productive campaign.
"I think togetherness," he said. "We are together. We know that last season was tough for us and must make sure this doesn't happen again. We know the way. We work hard, we enjoy training together. We have fun and that is key. When we are together, we are going to be hard to beat.
"We're happy with the way things are going. We play well, score goals and I'm happy how the team is developing themselves. Let's see. I think it's going to be important to have a good start against Arsenal and then everything is possible."
United have one last warm-up game before the competitive season gets under way, tackling Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday, live on MUTV, with the Snapdragon Cup up for grabs.
