Onana shortlisted twice for PL Save of the Season
Manchester United shot-stopper Andre Onana is one of six goalkeepers in the running to win the Premier League’s Save of the Season award for 2024/25.
Onana has two separate efforts nominated for the prestigious prize, which has been a part of the top flight’s annual accolade haul since the 2021/22 campaign. Voting is open here.
The first is an incredible double save from our goalless draw away to Crystal Palace in September, in which the Cameroonian thwarted attempts from Eddie Nketiah and Ismaila Sarr in quick succession.
Onana's astounding double save
Andre's antics at Selhurst Park have seen him nominated for the Premier League's Save of the Month for September...
“You don't expect it [Nketiah’s shot] to go through him [the legs of Matthijs de Ligt] so not only does he have to react, he also has to get down and get a very strong hand to it,” said legendary United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel at the time.
“But the recovery is just amazing. A very, very good save. He's stepping up and winning points for his team.”
That one-on-one denial at Portman Road is Onana’s other contender for the Save of the Season trophy, after he extended his right arm to bat away Delap’s first-time effort from point-blank range, upon the striker being found by Leif Davis’s threaded ball across the face of goal.
The other nominated saves for the end-of-season gong are the league’s remaining Save of the Month winners this term, as you can see via the full shortlist below…
