Onana: I want to go one better this year
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana says the pain of losing the 2023 Champions League final motivates him to try and go one better this season.
The summer arrival from Internazionale tasted defeat to Manchester City in Istanbul before making the switch to Old Trafford for the start of the new campaign.
Now, as he prepares to make his Champions League bow for the Reds, away at six-time winners Bayern Munich, he is confident United can get a positive result and get back on track after the defeat against Brighton at the weekend.
While Wednesday's hosts have a lot of heritage and history, United's success-laden past should provide confidence for Erik ten Hag's side, says Andre.
Onana on Bayern Munich clash
Andre Onana outlines his Champions League ambitions ahead of our opener against Bayern Munich…
"We will give everything tomorrow and I hope we are going to win," he began, in an interview with MUTV on Tuesday night.
"It is not going to be easy, they are a very good team, but we are Manchester United. We have to be able to go anywehere and play our football.
"Don't be afraid to challenge anyone. I am very confident.
"Champions League, I know the competition. I played the final a few months ago so we have no limit. We have to dream big.
"We have to dream very big and it's not only about talking, it is time to deliver, to show in the pitch. This season didn't start how we wanted but I think in the end it will be much better."
While the pain of that final defeat in Turkey is the primary motivation for our no.24, Onana explained that the only way United are going to have a good chance of progressing in the tournament this term is if his team-mates all work together and believe.
"Something [like that] is a motivation for me, but [not] only me, I cannot do it [alone]. Only together we are stronger.
"When I see my team-mates and the quality we have, I am very confident and I know [if] we keep working how we are working, in the end of this season I think we are going to be dancing all together."
