Andreas set for new loan spell in Italy

Thursday 01 October 2020 19:39

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is set to join Lazio on loan for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

The 24-year-old has moved to Italy in a bid to obtain regular first-team football and will look to impress with the Roman club, who have been drawn in Group F of the Champions League, alongside Zenit St Petersburg, Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge.

After arriving in the Italian capital on Thursday evening, Andreas could be in contention to play in Sunday's big home game with Inter Milan, and enjoy a possible reunion with former team-mates Ashley Young, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Lazio's official website stated: "Andreas Pereira has landed in Rome. At around 18:00, the Brazilian from Manchester United arrived at Ciampino airport, ready for a new adventure. He will undergo the usual medical examinations at the Paideia clinic tomorrow morning before becoming a new Lazio player."

A United Academy product, Andreas joined the Reds from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 and made his senior debut against Milton Keynes Dons three years later.

This is his third loan spell away from Old Trafford, following stints in La Liga with Granada and Valencia.

He has made 36 starts and 39 substitute appearances for United, scoring four times - including the 2018/19 Goal of the Season, against Southampton at Old Trafford.

The midfielder's switch to Serie A is the latest loan move set up by the club, after Tahith Chong (Werder Bremen), James Garner (Watford), Matej Kovar (Swindon Town), Dylan Levitt (Charlton Athletic), Joel Pereira (Huddersfield Town) and Aliou Traore (Caen) also left on a temporary basis.

Everyone at the club would like to wish Andreas the best of luck for his stay with Lazio.

The new season is here. Our 2020/21 home, away and third kits are available now from United Direct.
