Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has flown out to Cyprus to support the Reds in the Europa League, and hopes Erik ten Hag’s side can regain some confidence against Omonia Nicosia.

United are looking to record consecutive European victories, having defeated Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 away last time out in the competition, and Cole wants to see a reaction from the Reds, following Sunday’s loss to Manchester City.

“You always want to try to bounce back [after a loss],” he said in an exclusive interview with MUTV’s Zarah Connolly, in United Daily. “I'm hoping that the performance is a lot better than what it was on Sunday.

“Go out there and play the way Manchester United should be playing.”

He added: “As we all know, football is all about confidence. You've got to try to bounce back. I have no doubts the players will be looking to bounce back as well and get some confidence and try to get themselves back on a good run.

“It starts this evening. It won't be easy this game, they're going to make it very hard for us."

Also in the exclusive matchday episode, Zarah spoke to another former Red, Mickey Thomas. The Welshman agrees with Cole, and believes that the players Erik ten Hag has taken to Cyprus indicates the Dutchman's intentions for the fixture against Omonia.

“I came over with the players yesterday and that was a strong squad for sure,” he said. “It'll be a strong XI. They want to win the game, there's no question about that and I think we will win.

“It's important to bounce back after the weekend's performance and I'm sure the boys will do that.

“It's all about this game now. Win this and get the confidence back inside."
