Elanga powered home his first goal at senior level, from Daniel James's inviting left-wing cross, while Mata scored from the penalty spot after Donny van de Beek was fouled inside the box.

Van de Beek was also popular for his industry and poise in midfield, while Alex Telles performed well at left-back throughout.

Ultimately, it was youngster Elanga who came out on top in only his second outing for the senior side. The Sweden-born forward had a couple of other opportunities before finding the net and looked a threat with his speed and direct play.

The pacey Academy product clocked the fastest time (34.95 km/h) despite the presence of Adama Traore on the opposing side, before his injury, and registered 24 sprints - another game high.

Van de Beek, who covered more ground than anybody on the pitch, edged Mata for second spot and was unlucky not to earn his second individual award of the season following his Man-of-the-Match display at Luton Town in the Carabao Cup.
