Anthony Martial scores again.

Martial posts best United pre-season run since 2007

Anthony Martial has found the net again, against Crystal Palace in Melbourne, opening the scoring in the 17th minute.

The France international added to his strikes against Liverpool and Melbourne Victory on Tour 2022 with a composed finish, expertly controlling Diogo Dalot's cross and prodding past substitute keeper Remi Matthews.

It means, by our reckoning, it is the first time the same player has scored in three consecutive United pre-season matches since 2007.

Back at the start of the 2007/08 campaign, which would be one of the most glorious in our history as the Premier League and Champions League trophies were secured, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney sparkled on the Far East tour.

Ronaldo netted in wins over Urawa Red Diamonds, Seoul and Shenzen Xiangxue, while Rooney also scored in the latter two fixtures, plus against Guangzhou Pharmaceutical and in an Old Trafford friendly with Internazionale, making it four pre-season games in a row for the England international, beating our current no.7's run of three successive scoring fixtures.

United went on to win 3-1, with Martial involved in the build-up for Marcus Rashford's second and playing the ball through for Jadon Sancho to extend the lead. Joel Ward pulled one back from a corner and, despite Will Fish's sending off, the Reds were able to make it three wins out of three.

Martial will be out to extend his personal scoring run to match Rooney's four-game streak when the Reds take on Aston Villa at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Saturday.

The striker has led the line in each of the Tour 2022 matches so far and looked extremely sharp.

Every pre-season game - including Aston Villa (10:45 BST Saturday 23 July) - will be shown live in our app and on
