Casemiro's stadium chat

While Diogo Dalot is returning to the club where he made his name, the full-back is not the only Manchester United player facing his former side.

Casemiro had a loan spell with FC Porto, spending the 2014/15 season there during his Real Madrid days. The Brazil international helped the Dragons reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, scoring a free-kick in the game against Basel in the competition.

The midfielder gained the continuity of regular first-team football that helped him to become a mainstay at Real, after they brought him back to the Bernabeu, and he has told team-mate Antony about the magnificence of the Estadio do Dragao.

Antony, who scored against Barnsley recently, is well versed in the Portuguese club and knows former Gremio wide player Pepe, from their time in the Brazil national team together.

Antony's European hopes

United winger Antony discusses our chances of success in the Europa League and previews tonight's clash with FC Porto...

“Porto are an excellent team,” Antony told club media ahead of flying out for the Europa League encounter. “But we also have an excellent team. It will be a difficult game with Porto being at home but we will be well prepared ahead of the tie.

“I have heard a lot about the Estadio da Dragao, from Casemiro as well, as he played for Porto. It is a great stadium right? We are going to have a difficult game that we need to prepare well to have a great game.

“I know Pepe, I played with him with the national team and he is a great player. Brazilians always have something to offer.“
Porto also have the likes of Otavio, Galeno and Wendell on their books from the South American nation but Antony is convinced United can respond positively in the competition, after being held to a 1-1 draw in our home opener with FC Twente last week.

“We were quite sad after the Twente game,” he conceded. “We wanted the win and we had to analyse this afterwards but we’ve analysed the game now and the errors committed. But now we are ready for the next game and to get the three points.

“We need to focus on our game, not on them, and believe in our work and everything we have been doing in training. That way, we can get things right during the game.”

Antony was part of the travelling squad that arrived in Porto on Wednesday evening and is an option to play on the right flank in the 20:00 BST kick-off.
