Ayden Heaven prepares for the Premier League game at Burnley.

Heaven trains with England senior squad

Thursday 26 March 2026 11:30

Ayden Heaven has participated in England's senior training session, under the watchful eye of manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Manchester United defender was called into the Under-20s squad, ahead of their game with Italy in Rome, but was promoted to the main group as Tuchel's men prepare for key World Cup warm-up friendlies against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley.

It will have provided valuable experience for the 19-year-old, who is one of the players in contention to replace Harry Maguire, when the centre-back serves a one-game suspension in the Reds' next outing, the home game against Leeds United on 13 April.

Harry Maguire says he will strive to do anything to ensure England are successful.

Heaven has made 15 appearances in all competitions for United this term and was named our Player of the Month for December.

The Londoner came on as a substitute during the closing stages of the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, helping the 10-man Reds claim a valuable point on the road, in the pursuit of UEFA Champions League football next season.

Our former Academy coach Neil Ryan is in charge of England Under-20s, whose assignment against Italy takes place on Friday at 15:30 GMT, with the Riano Athletic Centre hosting the action.

Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo, along with Marcus Rashford, who is on loan at Barcelona, are United's representatives in Tuchel's senior squad.

The German has suggested he will use Friday's contest with Uruguay as a platform for players to push for inclusion in the World Cup finals, which kick off in June.

Maguire sat down with reporters for a lengthy interview and said of his call-up: "It's amazing, it's something I have missed.

"When you don't get picked, when you've been a regular for six or seven years, it's tough.

"I spoke to the manager and he told me I was in. I phoned my family. My mum was on holiday and she was crying.

"I'm in a position now in my career where it is not so much about myself. I'm 33. If I play one minute at the World Cup or every game, I will do everything to make sure this country is successful."
