Sesko: I used to be a goalkeeper!

Benjamin Sesko has confirmed he started his footballing career as a goalkeeper.

The Manchester United striker followed in his father Ales's footsteps by donning the gloves at local club Radece, before deciding he was much better suited to the opposite end of the pitch.

It has proved a wise decision by the Slovenia international, who took his goal tally for the season to seven with a brilliant stoppage-time equaliser at West Ham United, last time out.

INSIDE CARRINGTON | Benjamin Sesko on meditation, basketball, the story of his new haircut and more…

"He [my dad] was a goalkeeper," Sesko said in our latest episode of the Inside Carrington podcast. "First, he was a player and then he switched to basketball a little bit. And then he switched again to football.

"He was a goalkeeper and I started, as well, as a goalkeeper, when I was a really young age.

"But then I said, one game, I remember I looked at my father in the middle of the game and said: 'Father, this is so boring. I don't have anything to do in the goal.'

"It was hard for me to see people, like my team-mates, playing up there and I couldn't score a goal.

"I like doing something," he continued. "There were also times, when I was a goalkeeper, I took the ball and went like through whole pitch and then scored a goal!

"So it was been a nice journey. And then I started as a centre-back and then I went up to striker. I think I was 12 or 13 then, something like this. That was the age that I just became a striker and I stayed there."

Sesko's next assignment is our away game at Everton on Monday 23 February, as he looks to continue his fine form.
