Manchester United Foundation is delighted to announce the latest group of players who will be returning to the Theatre of Dreams to take on Liverpool in the Legends of the North match on Saturday 21 May.

Red legends Paul Scholes, Dimitar Berbatov, Nicky Butt, Dwight Yorke and Quinton Fortune are the latest quintet to be confirmed, with the likes of Diego Forlan, Jaap Stam and Patrice Evra already assembled in Bryan Robson’s squad for the game, with tickets still available.

Bulgarian forward Berbatov will be returning to Old Trafford for the first time since his departure from the club in 2012. The former no. 9, who scored 56 goals in 149 appearances – which included a famous hat-trick against our Legends of the North opponents – cannot wait to come back.

These crowd pleasers will be back to entertain Old Trafford next month...

“I remember my time at Old Trafford as a really special period in my career," said Berbatov.

“With this in mind, it’s fantastic to have the chance to relive this when I return to Manchester to play in the Legends of the North match in May. Fans still mention my hat-trick against Liverpool, so I know what this game means. It’s going to be a magnificent day!

“When I was at the club, I always enjoyed working with the Foundation – especially the Christmas hospital visits – and I look forward to supporting them again.”

Fellow striker Dwight Yorke – a regular at our Legends matches and no stranger to scoring against Liverpool – is also delighted be back to help the Foundation once again.

Dwight said: “Our Foundation supports children local to Greater Manchester and around the world doing a lot of good work. These exhibition matches help to raise funds to continue that work, so I really hope to see the fans come out and support us.

“Both sets of fans will get to see some of their all-time favourite players as well – it’s called Legends of the North because there is a history there with these players who have done wonderful things for these football clubs, in both teams. It should be a fantastic day.”

Bryan Robson’s squad is now bristling with talent from great United squads from down the years, setting the game up nicely to be one supporters won’t want to miss. All proceeds from the Old Trafford match will go to Manchester United Foundation’s work with young people across Greater Manchester.
