Williams makes U21s debut in Andorra draw
Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams made his debut for England Under-21s on Wednesday afternoon, in a European Championship qualifier away to Andorra which finished 3-3.
The Manchester-born defender started at left-back for Aidy Boothroyd's team, which also featured two other debutants: Curtis Jones (Liverpool) and Rhys Williams (Liverpool).
Brandon played the entire 90 minutes of a see-sawing game, which saw England go behind, and then come back to lead 2-1 and then 3-2, thanks to goals from Tom Davies (Everton), Josh Dasilva (Brentford) and Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal).
But still the Three Lions finished up with just a point, due to a late equaliser from Christian Garcia, despite enjoying 81 per cent of possession.
Magic moment: Brandon's belter
ArticleA maiden strike by Brandon Williams was followed by the sort of spirit fostered in the United Academy.
Williams, who hails from Harpurhey in north Manchester, only made his United debut in September 2019, coming on as a substitute in a 1-1 Carabao Cup draw with Rochdale.
The 20-year-old immediately impressed, and made his first start little over a week later, against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.
In his fourth (Partizan) and seventh games (Brighton), he was voted Man of the Match, underlining his firm popularity with the club's fanbase. He finished the season with 36 appearances in all competitions.
The Academy graduate also penned a long-term contract, which will keep him at his boyhood club until 2024.
Williams was called up to the Under-21 squad in August, but was unable to take part in the qualifiers against Kosovo and Austria due to a foot injury.
But now the youngster has finally made his bow, after previous experiences representing the Three Lions at Under-20 level.
