Bruno Fernandes and Fred

Fernandes: Old Trafford was bouncing

Thursday 23 February 2023 23:53

Bruno Fernandes absolutely loved the Old Trafford atmosphere, as Manchester United beat Barcelona 2-1 to progress to the Europa League round of 16.

Our no.8 believes there is something special developing between this team and the fans, and was thrilled with the 4-3 aggregate success.

“They’ve been with us in the toughest moments,” he told BT Sport at full-time.

“This season, we’ve been really good because they’re always behind us, but this is something different, you can feel it between them and us.”

Who was Man of the Match against Barcelona?

There were many huge performances in our Europa League win - but which Red got the nod?

He added: “We have something special because they see we’re doing all we can to win games for them.

“Old Trafford was bouncing, that’s why we get results. We have made great comebacks – this is what the club is made of.”

Fernandes was joined by Fred for the post-match interview, with the Brazilian in awe of fans singing his name, in the wake of his equaliser.

“It’s very good to hear my name from the fans,” he said.
“It was a good game that we played today. We need to keep going, we have a final on Sunday [in the Carabao Cup against Newcastle United] and now we rest and change our [focus] to the final.”

The Reds looked a different proposition from the side who played the first half, and trailed to Robert Lewandowski's penalty, to the one that came out flying in the second.

Fred, who scored two minutes after the restart, gave us an insight into what changed our approach for the second 45 minutes.

“First half, we didn’t play like we play, but, in the second half, we were much better," he explained.

“We started very well and scored early, so we had a good half-time talk with the coach and played the second half very well.”
