Bruno explains Player of the Month conundrum

Tuesday 02 November 2021 09:00

Bruno Fernandes admits choosing who to pick out as star man for October from the three nominees for Player of the Month is not an easy call.

David De Gea, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo are the three candidates selected in our poll following their impressive performances in a difficult month overall for the side.

While the Reds have undoubtedly been disappointed with a number of results and goals conceded during October, De Gea has continued to maintain his excellent personal form since the start of the campaign, making countless vital and impressive saves, and our no.1 was delighted to pick up a clean sheet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

At the other end of the pitch, Rashford has been in lively form since his return from injury against Leicester City, with three goals in four appearances.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, scored a memorable winner in our brilliant 3-2 win over Atalanta, before volleying home superbly to open the scoring against Spurs at the weekend.

We asked Bruno for his assessment of all three team-mates and put him on the spot to make the tough selection regarding who would get his vote.

"It’s difficult because Cristiano has been scoring goals, important goals, Rashy the same. David has conceded goals so it’s difficult but, if it wasn’t for David, we would have conceded many more," explained Fernandes to club media.

"For what he has done in the last month and has been doing since the start of the season, I think he deserves it. But obviously we know the power of people who score goals, so, if I would vote, I would vote for David this time.

"As I said, it’s a difficult one because Cristiano has scored important goals and Rashy. It’s hard for the fans [to vote], but my vote is for David."

There is still a little more time to vote for your Player of the Month, get your vote in before the poll closes at 14:00 GMT.
