Bruno Fernandes on the ball against Chelsea.

Fernandes targets improvements after victory

Monday 17 February 2020 23:59

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was delighted with our 2-0 Premier League victory over Chelsea on Monday night, but still feels the Reds can play better.

The Portuguese international has made an impressive start to life with the Reds, picking up the Man of the Match award in both of his appearances since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon in January.

The 25-year-old earned 30 per cent of the fans' votes in our Official App, while Harry Maguire finished second with 19 per cent and Eric Bailly was third in the poll, with 17 per cent. All fourteen players involved were on the shortlist.

Solskjaer praises Martial, Bailly and Bruno, but says we can play much better...

As well as scooping the post-match award on Monday night, Bruno also registered his first assist in United colours, when he picked out Harry Maguire for the Reds’ second goal of the evening at Stamford Bridge.

Victory in the capital saw us close the gap on Frank Lampard’s fourth-placed side to just three points, as the battle for Champions League places took another twist.

While our January recruit was thrilled with the result, which completed our first league double over Chelsea since 1987/88, Fernandes still feels there are areas to improve on.
“I’m really happy. It’s a difficult game against Chelsea,” Bruno told Sky Sports. “They are a great team and we needed to win to keep fourth [place in reach].

“I think we can do much better with the ball but it was a good game against a good team. They are really good with the ball but we played our game and won.

“I feel good, obviously. I’m playing for, I think, the biggest club in the England and I’m really happy. It’s a dream come true.”
