Fernandes gets a well-deserved rest
Bruno Fernandes will get a well-earned break after Portugal's unlucky Euro 2020 exit at the hands of Belgium.
The Manchester United midfielder came off the bench and, as always, gave it his all as the European Championship holders tried in vain to address a 1-0 deficit in Seville.
When the final whistle sounded, it brought an exhausting season to an end for the 26-year-old, who will be able to enjoy some family time, rest and recuperation.
Bruno had played more minutes since lockdown than any other Euro 2020 participant and was a driving force for the Reds in finishing second in the Premier League and reaching the Europa League final.
While his desire to play as much as possible is commendable, many fans will be pleased to see the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year putting his feet up and recharging the batteries with next term in mind.
There will be a phased return of the players as they report back for pre-season training, with those not involved in the internationals due at the Aon Training Complex first in early July.
As Portugal reached the knock-out stages of Euro 2020, Bruno will be one of those afforded more time for a break before rejoining the squad as the Reds prepare for the 2021/22 campaign.
