Bruno: Amorim connects with players
Bruno Fernandes feels the personal touch is one of the reasons Ruben Amorim excelled during his time with Sporting.
Fernandes, who left Lisbon a couple of months before our new head coach joined them from Braga, has been a keen observer of his former club from afar.
The Lions had not won a Portuguese championship since 2002, before Amorim guided them to titles in 2021 and 2024.
He departed the Estadio Jose Alvalade with Sporting clear at the top of the Primeira Liga, having won all 11 of their games, and in a good position to advance further in the Champions League.
Bruno believes the fond farewell he experienced after the recent victory over Manchester City – his final home match in charge - showed how much of an impact Amorim has made.

“Obviously for me, what stands out as I said to you is the connection he has with the players,” Bruno said.
“You see it at the end of the game when a manager is going from your club in the middle of the season and with all the things that they have still to win.
“And you see the way they say goodbye to him, the way they feel, they make him feel part of the team and how they treat him.
“So it shows that this is a great character and he's someone that gives his all to the players.”
Amorim helped launch the top-level careers of several high-profile players at Sporting, including Nuno Mendes, Matheus Nunes and our very own Manuel Ugarte.
Fernandes says Ruben nurtured the talents at his disposal and let them do their talking on the pitch and he hopes the 39-year-old can have the same impact with United’s crop, adding that the senior players will give him all the help he needs.
“I've seen many, many moments where players were struggling and he kept his faith in them,” our captain added.
‘Ruben can change the energy’
ArticleBruno Fernandes explains why he thinks United fans should be excited about Amorim.
“He always goes to the press conference and always defends their players and always kept them on under himself to give them the best opportunity to shine.
“He had a really youthful team so they needed that and hopefully when he comes here he can do the same again with the youth.
“Us players with the most experience, we have to help him to get that and get the best out of every player at this club.”
