Ruben reacts to Fernandes injury

Ruben Amorim has expanded on Bruno Fernandes's injury during Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Aston Villa.

The captain appeared to be in some discomfort with his right leg towards the end of the first half, but persevered until the whistle for the break.

Lisandro Martinez was the man to replace him following the interval, with Fernandes emerging from the dressing room to watch the second period from the bench.

Amorim was asked about the Portugal international's condition after the game, and has provided an update on the issue, with a busy schedule continuing on Boxing Day, against Newcastle United.

PRESS CONFERENCE | Ruben was asked about Fernandes, Mainoo, Sesko, Lammens and more after the game…

"I think it's soft tissue," the United boss told Sky Sports. "So, it's going to take a while. We'll see.

"It is really strange. During this year, especially at this time, we have so many problems, but we have to cope with that."

Amorim revealed later on, in his post-match press conference, that he believes Fernandes will miss "some" of the Reds' upcoming games.

"I don't know, I think he is going to lose some games, but I don't know for sure," the head coach revealed. "I don't want to talk about the matter, it is a guy who is always fit and he has shown he can always recover."

It would produce something of a selection headache for Amorim, who also lost Kobbie Mainoo from selection for this game with the 20-year-old picking up a small injury in training the day before.

United will, however, have Casemiro back available, as the Brazilian was serving a one-match suspension for his accumulation of yellow cards.

The Reds next face Newcastle at Old Trafford on Friday, before hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at the same venue on 30 December.

Amorim may provide updates on Fernandes, Mainoo and the rest of the squad in his pre-match media briefing next week – stay tuned to ManUtd.com and the United App for the latest updates.
