Bruno: We want to win the derby at all costs

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes acknowledges the Reds need to produce a better performance in next Sunday's Premier League derby with Manchester City.

United were held to a 0-0 draw with Watford on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford, as Ralf Rangnick's side dominated large parts of the proceedings but could not find a vital breakthrough goal.

Fernandes himself and Cristiano Ronaldo came closest to breaking the deadlock during our clash with the Hornets, but neither was able to convert the chances that were created and were otherwise thwarted by some resolute defending by the visitors.

Speaking to club media following the stalemate, our no.18 gave his thoughts on a frustrating afternoon, beginning: "We tried [to find the net] but the ball seemed to bounce off every player, our players, their players.

"As I've said before it was just one of those days where the ball wouldn't go in.

"Unfortunately for us it was just one point."

The Reds remain firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish this season, but drawing instead of winning against Watford meant missing the opportunity to go within one point of third-placed Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel's side are not in league action this weekend, as they will instead play in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley later today. Fernandes recognises that provided a possibility to put pressure on them.

''As I have said many times, we have dropped points on third place again,'' he lamented.

Bruno shares an honest assessment of Saturday's Premier League stalemate with Watford.

"I think that's the main thing for us, as we could be much closer to them [Chelsea].

"However, now is not the time to start thinking about how many points we should have now or how many points we should have in the end.

"We have to look to the next game, to win the game and to get three points again."

The Reds now have a full week to prepare for the next domestic test, against current league leaders Manchester City, as we bid to continue our strong recent form in the Blues' backyard.

United have won five of the last seven derbies at the Etihad Stadium, including last season's visit when Fernandes was on target with an early penalty in an eventual 2-0 victory.

Previewing the 187th meeting between the two clubs, Bruno began: ''It's one of those games where we know what it means for the city, for the fans, for the club and for ourselves.

"It's a game we want to win at all costs."
