Bruno Fernandes applauds the Man United fans at the Emirates Stadium

Bruno encouraged by United's performance

Bruno Fernandes felt the mentality and passion was evident in Manchester United's performance against Arsenal but small details decided the outcome.

The Reds were beaten 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, after the Gunners netted twice deep into stoppage time.

United were well in the match for long periods and substitute Alejandro Garnacho had a goal in the 88th minute disallowed for a marginal offside following a VAR check, before Declan Rice’s deflected strike and a breakaway goal from Gabriel Jesus saw Arsenal snatch victory.

Our captain admitted the manner of the defeat was difficult to take after a largely positive display against strong opponents.

Erik ten Hag tells us what pleased him about United's performance at Arsenal, despite the hosts' decisive late goals...

“It is always tough to lose the way we lost,” Bruno told Sky Sports. “We conceded the late [third] goal after trying to get the draw.

"They are a good team, they created a lot of problems for us. It was a good game for both teams but they got the points in the end.

"I felt the game was balanced. They had some spells on the ball but we wanted them to have that, we knew we could create the danger on the counters.

"It was a good game, I am disappointed by the result, but the performance of the team, the passion was there. If we keep doing this consistently we will get results.

"It is 11 v 11, home or away doesn't change anything. We had a really good game, it wasn't perfect as we didn't get the win but the spirit was right, the mentality, the desire, everyone doing the job the manager asked for.

"Sometimes the details change the game. It is not perfect to lose but I think we can take a lot of positives from this game."

The Reds must overcome the disappointment to go again after the international break, when we face Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford in our next outing on 16 September.
