Fernandes: We will always fight back

Bruno Fernandes highlighted the resolve of his Manchester United team-mates, following our 2-2 draw with Leeds United at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

The Reds fell behind before a minute had passed, with Wilfried Gnonto handing the visitors the lead after firing home from outside the area. Raphael Varane was then unfortunate to put through his own net shortly after the second half began, doubling the Whites' advantage.

But Erik ten Hag opted to switch around his personnel with half an hour to play and United were back on level terms just two minutes later, as Marcus Rashford rose highest to head home Diogo Dalot's cross from the right.

The scores were level just eight minutes later, as substitute Jadon Sancho fired past Illan Meslier to send Old Trafford wild.

Fernandes, Varane and Victor Lindelof all went close to winning it late on, but the points were shared at the Theatre of Dreams and Fernandes gave his review moments after the whistle had blown on a breathless encounter.

Bruno Fernandes says United should have beaten Leeds and views the result as two points dropped...

“Rapha [Raphael Varane] had the chance, I had a chance with my header that I could have scored,” Bruno began, as he dissected this evening's proceedings via MUTV.

“I also had a shot that was a deviation and Victor [Lindelof] almost got his head [to one], we had our chances.

“Unfortunately we didn't score but you could see the team was there for the fight and it's just about carrying on and doing our best, as I think this team has margin to improve and margin to show many good things and we will.”

After extending our home run to 10 unbeaten games, the Reds remain third in the Premier League, with our attention now quickly turning to this weekend's clash at Elland Road against the very same opponents.

Having made Old Trafford something of a fortress this season, our no.8 was keen to amplify the gratitude the players have for our loyal supporters, insisting our fans are the ones to help the team through tough periods.

It was a tightly contested vote but one Red has emerged victorious to claim the prize.

“At this stadium with these fans, these players, with the desire and the passion that we have, being 2-0 down will never be a problem,” Fernandes added.

“It can't happen to be 2-0 down but whenever we do go down it will never be a problem to fight back and turnaround the result, even more at home.

“Massive appreciation for the fans for what they did, they pushed until the very end and we could have won the game.

“We both deserved that win but as I said, at this house, with these players and the passion of the fans and the passion of the players, with the attitude of the players, it will never be a problem to be down or 0-0 in the last few minutes. We will always fight back.”
