Fernandes: We have to look forward now

Saturday 03 June 2023 18:24

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has urged us to "look forward" now after concluding our 62-game campaign with a narrow loss in the Emirates FA Cup final.

Despite getting on the scoresheet, our no.8 had to settle for a runners-up medal this time at Wembley as an Ilkay Gundogan double enabled our local rivals Manchester City to lift the coveted trophy.

With a third-place finish in the Premier League and also the Carabao Cup success to savour this term, Bruno will soon be looking forward to our next campaign and doing what he can to keep the club moving in the right direction.

“We wanted to end the season in a different way, but we are aware that we have made the right steps for the future,” he told BBC Sport at full-time.

How did the Reds fare individually across the 90 minutes at Wembley?

“It’s not a successful season overall, but this is a good season.

“We have to now look forward, to get back to this cup final next season, and understand that there is still a long way to go to get into a position to win bigger trophies and have bigger achievements.”
The Reds' no.8 was particularly disappointed that the team couldn't win the FA Cup for our fans, who provided magnificent support to the players throughout the campaign.

“The disappointment in the dressing room is also because we couldn’t [do] the job for the fans that they really deserve,” he said.

“They really deserve it [for] what they have done the entire season for us.
