Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay

Bruno: It just had to be an Academy graduate!

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was not surprised that it was an Academy graduate who inspired another famous Reds comeback in ‘Fergie time’ on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 going into added-time at the end of the 90 minutes, Scott McTominay came off the bench to score an emphatic brace to see us snatch all three points at the death.

“It’s Fergie time,” Bruno told MUTV after the match.

“At United it’s normal to score at this time of the game and part of Fergie time [means] it has to be an Academy graduate scoring too.

Fernandes: Relief and happiness

Bruno Fernandes describes the emotions in the United dressing room after the comeback win over Brentford...

“Scott gave us the win today and we are really happy for him.

“Part of the two goals was the desire and togetherness we had during the whole game, and the effort everyone that came on in the game to help the team [had] was really good.”

On the back of two home defeats, our no.8 believes it was crucial for us to pick up three points against the Bees, heading into the international break.

However, Bruno warns that the Reds must be aware of the ‘noise’ that comes with playing for such a club.

“It’s Manchester United - you’ll never stop the noise,” he added.

“Even if you win 10 games in a row, noise [is created] around something else. This club is massive and we have to be aware of that.”

Noise outside of Old Trafford scarcely matters to Bruno, however, insisting that the support of United fans is the crucial thing.

“We saw it [against Brentford], we’re losing the game but you see when we get to 1-1 how they get behind us,” he said.

“They believe with us to get the result and that is what is important to us.”

The Reds leave it late, as Scott McTominay's injury-time double completes a memorable comeback.

McTominay’s late brace prevented Erik ten Hag’s men from suffering a third successive loss at home, with Bruno urging the Reds to make it the fortress it was last season once more.

“Everyone who plays at Old Trafford has to feel that it is not a good place to come,” he said.

“It is a good stadium to come [to], but it is not a good place to play. We have to get back the feeling that we are an aggressive team and when we play at home we’re difficult to beat and it’s difficult to get something from that.”
