Fernandes in the frame for award

The respect Bruno Fernandes garners from his peers continues to be evident, as the Manchester United captain is on a six-man shortlist to win the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

Despite the Reds enduring a disappointing season, finishing in 15th place in the Premier League, the midfielder's standout performances clearly impressed his opponents.

Once the voting from the PFA's membership was collated, the Portugal international was among the leading candidates, and is also in contention to get into the PFA Team of the Year.

The winners will be honoured on 19 August at an awards ceremony in Manchester.

Bruno Fernandes shared his respect for his peers earlier this year - and the feeling is clearly mutual!

Bruno is up against Liverpool duo Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah, plus Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and Chelsea star Cole Palmer.

Our Portuguese magnifico scored eight times in 36 league appearances and 19 times across all competitions.

Manchester City's Phil Foden is the current holder of the award, while a United player has not won it since Wayne Rooney in 2009/10. That individual success for our record goalscorer did make it four triumphs on the trot for the Reds though, with Cristiano Ronaldo (2) and Ryan Giggs also being honoured by their peers.

Mark Hughes was the first United victor in 1988/89.
