The numbers behind Bruno's 250
Bruno Fernandes became the 89th Manchester United player to make 250 appearances for the club during Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.
Fernandes is one of only 13 non-British or Irish players to reach the landmark and joins Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw as the current squad members who are part of the 250 club.
The speed with which Bruno has racked up the number has been nothing short of astonishing – only 1,744 days separated his debut and the Foxes fixture.
In that time, he has missed just 15 United games – five due to suspension, three through injury, one because of illness and another six as a result of squad rotation in the cup competitions.
Stats from data provider Opta further exemplify our Portuguese magnifico’s supreme durability.
Who did Bruno overtake in our scoring list?
ArticleIt was a special afternoon in more ways than one for Fernandes, who reacted to his achievement with MUTV.
Since his debut, Bruno has appeared in more club games than any other Premier League player, with compatriot Bernardo Silva his closest challenger, having made 234 appearances for Manchester City during the same time frame.
After receiving a commemorative framed shirt from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe before kick-off on Sunday, Bruno set about marking the occasion in the best way possible.
His opener in our eventual victory against Steve Cooper’s side took him to 83 Reds goals – one more than the great Eric Cantona managed during his time here.
Fernandes also registered a 100th Premier League goal involvement, doing so in his 170th appearance in the competition – only one more than it took Cristiano Ronaldo to reach his century.
The remaining 80 games have been split between five competitions: Europa League (28), Emirates FA Cup (20), Champions League (19), Carabao Cup (12) and Community Shield (1).
Opta takes all of these into account when ranking top-flight players for their goal involvements, and only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (198 combined goals and assists) can top Bruno’s mark of 155, again since February 2020.
There’s just one player in the league who can beat Fernandes for creativity in this spell too, with Kevin De Bruyne on 84 assists to Bruno’s 72.
