Fernandes targets United silverware

Monday 27 July 2020 09:00

Bruno Fernandes has already set his sights on the next target at Manchester United, after the Reds secured our place in the 2020/21 edition of the Champions League.

A 2-0 victory over Leicester City on the final day of the Premier League campaign - in which our no.18 netted the opener - ensured a third-placed finish for the Reds, and means we’ll participate in Europe’s premier competition next term.

However, Bruno’s not quite turned his attention to the following season just yet, with the Reds still having plenty to play for in 2019/20.

Bruno Fernandes is happy with the top-four finish and can’t wait to hear the Champions League anthem at Old Trafford…

Our Europa League campaign resumes next month when we host LASK in the second leg of our last-16 tie, and Fernandes wants to end his first season at Old Trafford with some silverware.

“Now our focus is on the Europa League because this is a really good trophy and we want to win,” Bruno told MUTV after the win against Leicester.

“I came to Manchester to win trophies. We need to play every game to win. If we go into the Europa League and win every game, we know we'll win the trophy.”
While Bruno is hoping to win the continental tournament in August, the midfielder is looking forward to making the step up to the Champions League next year.

“Of course, playing Champions League is always special and I hope it can be with the supporters, that will be more special,” he said.

“We deserve to be in the best games, in the best European competition. Nothing against the Europa League, but everyone knows the best competition is the Champions League.

“We feel good, it's what we wanted,” he added. “We trained hard and we worked hard for this moment. We know the only thing we could achieve this season was getting into the Champions League, so we fought hard for that.

“But we are not happy enough because we know this club and these players, they can bring much more for the club. I think we have qualities enough to fight for some titles - more than one title, you know? I think we need to win some trophies and then we'll be really happy.”
