Bruno wins another Man-of-the-Match award
Bruno Fernandes picked up another Man-of-the-Match award after his role in the 2-0 victory over Leicester City on the final day of the Premier League season.
The Portugal international kept his nerve to score from the spot to ease any nerves in the second half and it was his through ball that led to Anthony Martial drawing the foul for the spot-kick.
Afterwards, he spoke with us about his eighth league goal since arriving from Sporting Libson in the winter transfer window.
“I'm happy - all goals are important in different ways,” Fernandes told us.
“It was important today for us and for me to score this goal because it gave us a chance to be more calm in the game.
“Of course Leicester tried to attack because they needed to score twice but we defended well and in the last minute we never stopped fighting.”
The Portuguese added that he enjoyed Kasper Schmeichel's attempts to psyche him out, during what was a long wait to take the spot-kick.
“I like the pressure and I like when the keeper leaves the ball close to him to give some pressure. I know he's afraid.
“He gave me that little bit of confidence I need. Of course, they try to do these mind games but for me, it's better when they do.”
Bruno had two shots, one on target, and made four crosses, nobody on the pitch made more. He had 63 touches in all and gained possession nine times, the same as Nemanja Matic.
Only Leicester's James Justin made more than his 12 sprints as it was another real shift from the playmaker, who was replaced late on by Scott McTominay.
Since the 25-year-old made his United debut on 1 February, the Reds have won more Premier League points (32) than any other team. The Portuguese also tops the division for goal involvements (15) in that time.
