Two Reds up for Premier League award

Casemiro and Marcus Rashford have been nominated for December’s Premier League Player of the Month award.

With domestic football only just having resumed following the World Cup, the accolade takes into account performances in both November and December, meaning four Reds games are considered.

After a surprise defeat to Aston Villa in early November, United secured a dramatic 2-1 victory at Fulham in our final game before the break, thanks to a late Alejandro Garnacho goal.

When the Premier League got back under way in late December, we picked up where we left off – beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 and Wolves 1-0 to finish 2022 on a high note as we were positioned fourth in the top-flight.

Marcus Rashford has now scored in six home games in a row, going back to October…

Rashford scored against both Forest and Wolves, also assisting Anthony Martial’s strike in the former game, and his positive recent performances have him in line to win a second Premier League Player of the Month award of 2022/23.

Marcus last took home the individual honour in September 2022 and he is also in the running to win United’s equivalent prize for December.

That’s also the case for Casemiro, who earns a first PL POTM nomination since moving to England from Real Madrid in the summer.

Although the Brazilian netted United’s opener against Bournemouth during our first game of January 2023, he only had one goal involvement during the award’s qualifying period, setting up Fred for his strike versus Forest.

But the 30-year-old is making a huge mark on the Reds' midfield and has seemingly been everywhere in our recent contests, playing a significant part in the run of clean sheets, especially at Old Trafford.
