Stoney and Russo up for WSL awards

Manchester United Women's manager Casey Stoney and forward Alessia Russo have been nominated for Barclays FA Women's Super League awards for October.

The Reds won 4-2 at West Ham Women before the international break, securing a 100 per cent record during the calendar month, after already beating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 and Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.

With three wins from three, United find ourselves third in the table, only two points behind leaders Arsenal.

Casey Stoney's Reds made it four WSL wins in a row, with a convincing performance against the Hammers.

Stoney has been nominated for the WSL Manager of the Month award. after introducing a lot of new faces into the squad, for example Tobin Heath and Christen Press, who both scored their first goals for the Reds last time out.

The boss is up against Everton manager Willie Kirk, Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro and Birmingham City manager Carla Ward for the award.

The 21-year-old Russo also joined the Reds in the summer and has scored three goals for Stoney's side this month.

Her first came in her first start for the club in our 3-0 win at Brighton. She added to her tally last weekend, registering twice as United overcame West Ham and her performances and attacking contribution means she's in the running for the WSL Player of the Month award for October.

Alessia Russo has been nominated for the WSL Player of the Month award for October.

Also up for the gong are Birmingham's Rachel Corsie, Everton player Claire Emslie, and the Arsenal duo of Katie McCabe and Vivianne Miedema.
