Stoney wins Manager of the Month award

Manchester United Women’s manager Casey Stoney has picked up the December 2020 WSL Manager of the Month accolade.

The boss guided the Reds to a 100 per cent winning run last month, with three superb victories.

We started December with a battling performance away to Aston Villa, which was settled by goals from Leah Galton - winner of the WSL Player of the Month award - and Ella Toone as United ran out 2-0 victors.
Casey also won the Manager of the Month award in November.
Casey’s side followed that up with a tense 2-1 win over Reading the following week, as a late Hayley Ladd strike wrapped up all three points for the Reds.

We then ended 2020 with a convincing 6-1 triumph over Bristol City at Leigh Sports Village - our biggest win of the campaign to date.

Those three points ensured we finished the calendar year in top spot, ahead of the chasing pack of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.
It’s a position we still occupy as United get ready to face our first match of 2021, away to second-placed Chelsea this Sunday.

The Reds were supposed to be in action for the first time in 2021 last weekend, but our WSL encounter with Everton was called off due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Toffees ranks.

Therefore, Sunday will mark four weeks since our women's team were last in action, and Casey will be hoping to carry over some of our December form into January.

This is the second time the United boss has picked up the Manager of the Month award this term, having also claimed the accolade in November, so this announcement today gives her consecutive triumphs.

Casey will also be delighted that her talented left winger, Leah, has won the WSL Player of the Month prize after netting four goals in three games in December.
